DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Textile typography project about domestic violence, completed in London, 2004.
Each phrase stands for all those people subjected to violence and whom continue to suffer in silence.
Sewing and crochet techniques have been implemented to communicate this message.
Domestic violence often happens behind closed doors where no one can see or hear. A superficial glance at the family might reveal harmony, yet if we look beneath the surface we may find darker, more tragic events unfolding.
Each act of violence can work as a catalyst for what may become profound experiences of shock and torment. In this video, the cotton thread, the increase in pace of the needle, the disturbing and hammering sound becoming increasingly louder, are symbolic of this gradual movement towards emotional turmoil.
