Dancer: @sssarabrown
Music: @terper.club

"I will always be here: a place you belong," speaks the Ocean.
A reminder that we breathe the ocean. The ocean gives us life.
The dance takes us by the hand, from the shore to the deepest depths, inviting us to marvel at the ocean’s beauty while also confronting the devastating effects of climate change, pollution, and destructive fishing practices on our essential ecosystem.

I Will Always Be Here, Breathing Waves, dance activation by Sara Brown

DISPLACEMENT by Terper

This art installation draws attention to the ecological consequences of animal habitat disruption, the displacement of civilians through conflict, the cultural fragmentation experienced by Indigenous communities—emphasizing that displacement is not a singular event, but rather a layered and ongoing condition shaped by environmental, political, and historical forces.

The 24-hour cycle is divided into four symbolic seasons, with each hour representing a gradual transition: beginning in the purity of untouched nature, descending into increasing human influence, and eventually returning to a state of natural equilibrium at the top of the hour; nature shall always prevail.
This cyclical narrative underscores the temporality and repetition inherent in both ecological and cultural dislocation.

Within the installation space are various sculptures:

Hand Reach — this creature’s balance relies on its outstretched hand, a
gesture of connection. It embodies vulnerability, resilience, and the search for support in a disconnected world.

Porta — a lit door shape highlights the liminal quality of portals—
thresholds of transformation or passage into the unknown.

Sentinel — a luminous sentinel holding a fading world; a switch in its
  other hand—the ability for change.
Forest — inspired by an ancient Quercus tree, a mask and photo that
reflects how there is not separation between human and nature.

Breathing Waves
17 January - 27 April 2025
Centre d'Artesania de Caralunya

'Breathing Waves' shows the work of Paola Idrontino in an exhibition that connects art, nature and environmental awareness through a collection of sculptures, costumes and photographs that reflect both the enchanting beauty hidden beneath the waves and the devastating effects of coral bleaching caused by climate change.
Paola Idrontino’s passion for telling stories sits alongside complex textile arrangements to create costumes inspired by grotesque creatures and the beauty of nature. Her photographs express her fondness for tales and myths, with a nod to a women’s world that turns into a deity who protects sea creatures.

This exhibition displays Evanescent, her largest textile sculpture, together with costumes inspired by the sea, photographs, videos, sketch books and accessories. This collection includes works created since 2016 to date.

We need to listen and understand how our actions affect the world around us. We are part of a complex web of life, which becomes clear when we connect with animals. Nature feels like a distant fantasy for city dwellers, leading to a lack of empathy for biodiversity and its destruction.

Dance activation by @sssarabrown for 'Breathing Waves' by @paolaidrontinoart

The dance takes us by the hand, from the shore to the depths. At first, it reveals our ego—the way we perceive nature from above—then invites us to marvel at the ocean’s beauty while also confronting the devastating effects of climate change, pollution, and destructive fishing practices on our essential ecosystem.
